Education Attorney Amanda Merkwae

Amanda Merkwae is an attorney at Legal Action who represents students in education matters. Prior to practicing law, she taught 7th and 8th grade social studies in Milwaukee. Amanda is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (JD), Marquette University (MEd), and American University (BA).  With a Skadden Foundation Fellowship, she is now working to keep students in school by providing legal representation to students and families in:


          MPS Central Office Hearings

          MPS Expulsion Hearings

          Charter School Expulsion Hearings

          Private School Expulsion Hearings (schools in the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program)

          Expulsion Hearings in other public school districts in Southeastern Wisconsin

          IEP meetings related to behavior issues
