Barriers to Employment

Legal Action of Wisconsin advocates may be able to help resolve civil legal problems that are barriers to work. Our goal is to improve our clients’ ability to get and keep family-sustaining jobs. Common issues include:

• Expungement
• Pardon
• Criminal history report correction
• Driver’s license recovery
• Forfeiture/ticket defense
• Warrants caused by poverty

Or, to get help with driver's license recovery in Milwaukee, contact the Center for Drivers License Recovery and Employability.  The Center is a public-private partnership that includes Legal Action, Wisconsin Community Services, Milwaukee Area Technical College. and the City of Milwaukee.

Legal Action partnered with LIFT Dane and others in the creation of an app called Legal Tune Up. Legal Tune Up can be used to helps remove eligible criminal cases records and dismissed eviction cases records from your record. For Dane County residents, LIFT Dane also offers employment assistance and job training. Coming soon, Legal Tune Up will be able to help with driver’s license reinstatements and child support adjustments.
