You will learn about evictions in Dane County and volunteering with the Madison Eviction Defense Project. Topics covered include WI housing law, the eviction process, legal challenges facing low-income tenants, and defenses. 

Started in 2018, the Madison Eviction Defense Project works with volunteer attorneys to assist low-income clients facing eviction.

Tuesdays: Volunteers provide brief service to tenants facing eviction in Dane County on Tuesday return dates, including counsel and advice, negotiations, and limited representation at a hearing before a judicial court commissioner. Morning and afternoon shifts.

Fridays: Volunteers provide representation at motion hearings or trials for tenants in eviction cases before a Dane County Circuit Court Judge. Sign up to take one case. (Cases scheduled 9:00 am – 2:00 pm).
